Abstract

24,498. Helfenstein, A. Oct. 25. Electrode furnaces.-In a furnace in which the gases produced are burnt in the space i between the charge h and the walls, the upper electrode g passes through a charging-shaft and is protected by the surrounding charge from the heat of the burning gases. Air is supplied through openings f, and additional gas may also be supplied. The charging- shaft has a gas-tight cover b and may be narrowed at the lower end to reduce the cross-section of the upper part of the charge. Inspection slots e are provided.
