Abstract

17,348. Westgate, J. July 26. Bleaching grain; bleaching flour and meal.- Sulphur dioxide for bleaching bran or grain is generated in a furnace constructed in two parts, the upper part being provided with a waterjacket r. Sulphur is fed to a shoot p by a worm f, which is driven by gearing in connexion with an adjustable ratchet feed, and is delivered to one end of the combustion chamber together with a regulated supply of air. The gas is withdrawn through a flue q leading from the other end of the chamber. The furnace may be used in conjunction with the apparatus described in Specification 8091/03.
