Abstract
1357746 Discharge lamp circuits KUROI ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO 28 May 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 18059/71 Heading H2H [Also in Division H1] A starting and operating circuit for a heated electrode discharge lamp 4 comprises a magnetic circuit upon which are wound a lamp current limiting coils N 1 , N 2 , an electrode preheating coil N 3 in parallel with the lamp electrodes 5, 6 and two electrode heating coils Nf1, Nf2, the coil N 3 being connected in series with a glow switch 7. The magnetic circuit is preferably 3-limbed and formed by confronting two E-cores, Fig. 2, the coils N 1 , N 2 being wound on opposite outside limbs, and coils Nf1, Nf2, N3 all wound on the centre leg. Flux derived in the outside limbs subtractively combines in the centre, and during a starting operation with switch 7 closed, is superimposed with the flux of coil N 3 whereby an A.C. voltage is generated across both electrodes 5, 6 of a magnitude sufficient to pre-heat them prior to lamp ignition. After ignition, coil N 3 is removed from the circuit and the small flux through Nf1, Nf2 is sufficient to cause electrodes 5, 6 to be maintained at a running temperature.
