Abstract

1353521 Photographic silver halide materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 27 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 17619/71 Heading G2C [Also in Division C4] A photographic X-ray sensitive material which may be handled in normal room lighting conditions without fogging comprises a support bearing a layer of an X-ray-sensitive silver halide emulsion containing a 3-alkyl-3<SP>1</SP>-alkyl-nitrothiazolino thiacyanine desensitizer and a yellow dye of Formula I below and, coated over said X-raysensitive emulsion, a second silver halide emulsion layer containing a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic desensitizer distinct from that in the X-ray-sensitive emulsion and a yellow dye of Formula I: - wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each H or alkyl or alkoxy of 4-12C, at least one being alkyl or alkoxy, R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl or alkoxy of 1-4C, M is H or an alkalimetal, ammonium or substituted ammonium cation and m and n are each 0 or 1, at least one being 1. The yellow dye absorbs light to which the silver halide is sensitive and allows the material to be exposed and processed under room-lighting conditions. The desensitizer in the X-ray-sensitive layer may have the Formula II: - where X is halide and R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each alkyl. Other desensitizers such as 5-nitro benzimidazole, 5-chloro-benzo-1:2:3-triazole and 1:3-diamino- 5-benzylphenazium chloride may also be used. The second emulsion layer is normally more strongly desensitized than the first layer and may comprise a silver halide internal latent image emulsion having little or no surface sensitivity.
