Abstract
1318723 Photographic direct-positive silver halide materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 14 Aug 1970 [ 14 Aug 1969] 39285/70 Heading G2C A direct-positive photographic material comprises a support bearing on one side at least two direct-positive silver halide emulsion layers and contains an actinic radiation absorber, e.g. an absorbing dye and/or a silver halide of low sensitivity, in a layer between the emulsion layers and/or in the emulsion layer nearer to the support so as to increase the difference between the effective speeds of the emulsion layers and thus increase the exposure latitude of the material. When the absorber is a dye it is incorporated in the lower emulsion layer or in an inter-layer between the emulsion layers, and when it is silver halide it is in an inter-layer. The emulsion layers may contain blue-sensitive emulsions of the following types:- (i) internal latent image emulsion fogged externally and containing a blue speed increasing compound as in Specification 1186718; (ii) a fogged silver halide emulsion containing an electron acceptor compound as in Specification 1186713; (iii) an emulsion having silver halide cores treated e.g. with Pd, Ir or Pt and fogged shells as in Specification 1151781; and (iv) an emulsion having sensitivity centres in the grains which are too small or sufficiently buried not to initiate development e.g. grains made by precipitation in presence of a sensitizing agent. The radiation absorbing dyes include benzo - triazoles, oxonols, cyanines, merocyanines and azo dyes.
