Abstract

1338443 Photographic converted-halide silver halide emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24562/71 Heading G2C A sensitive photographic material comprises a support bearing a layer of a chemically surfacesensitized converted-halide silver halide emulsion of which the silver halide comprises at least 50 mole % bromide and up to 10 mole % iodide, any remainder being chloride, the material containing a colour coupler incorporated in the emulsion layer or a layer adjacent thereto. The silver halide preferably comprises at least 80 mole % bromide and less than 5 mole % iodide. The emulsion layer may be red-, green- or blue-sensitive. Example 4 describes a multi-colour material containing red-, green-, and blue-sensitive layers according to this invention each containing the corresponding colour coupler coated on a white titanium dioxide pigmented polyethylene coated, electron bombarded paper support. The gelatine layer between the red- and greensensitized emulsion layers in Example 4 contains 2-(2-hydroxy-3, 5-di tert-amylphenyl)- benzotriazole as U.V. absorber. The converted emulsion may be treated with sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate to create electron traps at the surface of the silver halide grains, and the sodium salt of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7- tetraazaindene may be added to slow the ripening process and prevent further grain growth (see Ex 1) These photographic materials have excellent storage stability, good speed, low fog, excellent sensitometric curve shape, good developability and high resistance to pressure sensitivity.
