Abstract

738,637. Photographic films. KODAK, Ltd. June 3, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 26236/54. Divided out of 738,618. Class 98 (2). The amount of desensitization on kinking of a photographic film (particularly an X-ray film) comprising a support having on each side a gelatino-silver halide emulsion layer at least 0.4 mils thick, is reduced by incorporating in each emulsion a dialkyl phthalate, such as dimethyl, diethyl, di-n-propyl or di-n-butyl phthalates. There may be a gelatine layer (which may also contain other colloids) containing a non-diffusing, light-absorbing material coated over each emulsion layer, for example as described in Specification 583,508. Subbing layers such as anti-halation layers may be provided between the support and the emulsion layers. A triangle test and a sensitometric bend test by means of which the amount of desensitization on kinking may be estimated, are described.
