Abstract

738,640. Photographic films. KODAK, Ltd. June 3, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 37158/54. Divided out of 738,618. Class 98 (2). The amount of desensitization on kinking of a photographic film (particularly an X-ray film) comprising a support having a gelatino-silver halide emulsion layer of thickness greater than 0.4 mils. on each side, is reduced by incorporating in each emulsion a polymerized ethylenically unsaturated compound. Polymers specified are copolymers of acrylonitrile with acrylic esters (e.g. with ethyl acrylate), copolymers of butadiene with styrene or acrylonitrils, copolymers of styrene with acrylic esters (e.g. with ethyl or butyl acrylates), polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylamides and polyvinyl alcohols. There may be a gelatine layer (which may also contain other colloids) containing a non-diffusing, lightabsorbing material coated over each emulsion layer, for example as described in Specification 583,508. Subbing layers such as antihalation layers may be provided between the support and the emulsion layers. A triangle test and a sensitometric bend test by means of which the amount of desensitization on kinking may be estimated are described.
