Abstract

1339039 Converted halide silver halide photographic materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24561/71 Heading G2C A sensitive photographic material comprises a support bearing on one side red-, green- and blue-sensitive photographic silver halide emulsion layers containing, respectively, cyan, magenta and yellow couplers, each emulsion being a chemically surface-sensitized converted halide silver halide emulsion of which the halide comprises at least 50 mole per cent bromide and up to 10 mole per cent iodide, any remainder being chloride, a carboxy-substituted thiazoline or thiazolidine being present in at least one of the emulsions. Converted halide emulsions as defined above containing a colour coupler and the thiazoline or thiazolidine are also claimed per se. The thiazoline or thiazolidine preferably has one of the following formulae:- wherein R 1 is H, carboxymethyl or each R 2 is alkyl or carboxymethyl; each R 3 is H or carboxyl, at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 comprising a carboxyl group; R 6 is H or carboxymethyl; R 4 is H or methyl and R 5 is H, carboxyl or alkyl. The thiazoline or thiazolidine tends to stabilize the emulsion so that its sensitometric properties change less on storage or incubation, and to sharpen the toe of its characteristic curve.
