Abstract
1352963 Pneumatic actuators H A SCHLATTER AG 27 March 1972 [6 April 1971] 14201/72 Heading F1D A compressed air actuated clamping device comprises at least one spring returned piston 16 within a cylinder 8 surrounded by a housing 2 to provide an annular space 7 and having an end plate 21 with a port 22 open to a working cylinder space 10a and controlled by a working air operated valve plate 24 having a check valve 30 which opens in the closing direction of plate 24 which latter when open allows port 22 to be connected through space 7 and cylinder wall ports 35 to the spring side 10b of piston 16 and plate 24 when closed by working air admitted at 31, 32 results in opening of valve 30 and leftward moving of the piston 16 and its rod 6. To return the piston line 21 is vented whereon valve plate 24 moves to the right and with valve 30 closed cylinder space 10a is vented through space 7 and a throttle 36 in housing 2 thereby damping the spring returned piston. As shown the piston rod 6 carries a second piston 15 which with cylinder 8 forms a second working space 9a to which compressed air is admitted from port 22 through piston rod bores 18, 19. In a modification the rear face 24b of the valve plate 24 can be vented to space 7 through a valve duct (51) Fig. 2 (not shown), and a space (49) when a solenoid valve (50) is unenergized.
