A piston valve A for controlling the supply of pneumatic pressure from a duct 7 through one or other of ducts 8, 9 to the ends of a working cylinder 10 comprises connected pistons 3 ... 6 within a casing 1 having end chambers 20, 14 and moved to the right from the position shown on opening a normally closed three-way impulse valve 35 to allow compressed air from a duct 39 to flow through ducts 31, 30 within the piston 26 of a control valve B, and its rod 27, a chamber 36 and a duct 21 to the chamber 20 : when the end position of the pistons 3 ... 6 is reached, pressure in a duct 44 connecting the pressure duct 9 to a piston 42 within the casing 22 of the valve B displaces this piston and the piston 26 against which it abuts to its other extreme position to allow the chamber 20 to exhaust through the duct 21, a groove 28 of the piston rod 27 and a duct 40 open to atmosphere ; the return of pistons 3 ... 6 being effected irrespective of whether the valve 35 is open or closed on opening a three-way impulse valve 16 to allow compressed air from a duct 19 to gain access to the chamber 14 which was hitherto vented through the valve 16 to atmosphere. At the completion of the cycle i.e., when the pistons3 ... 6 and 11 are in their initial position shown, the valve 35 is assumed to be released whereupon the chamber to the right of the piston 26 is vented through the valve 35, and said piston 26 and rod 27 are returned by pressure from the duct 8 and a duct 41 connecting it to the left of the piston 26.
