Abstract

1352132 Disposable gowns ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd 26 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 19948/70 Heading A3V A disposable gown suitable for operating theatres is made from paper or non-woven fabric and comprises a body portion in the form of a lay-flat tube with a narrower tube 4 fixed transversely across one end of the body portion to form a T-piece providing arm and shoulder portions, a out out portion 5 being provided in the tube 4 as a neck opening. An opening 2 is provided which may be limited to a length adjacent the open end of the body portion or instead of a single piece with side folds 1 and a front or back opening 2 two pieces may be seamed together at their side edges except for portions at the free end which remain unseamed to facilitate donning the gown. The opening 2 of the body portion may be provided with tapes or toggle-type fasteners. The gown is made by applying heatseal adhesive to facing edges 3 of the folded transverse tube 4 but not sealing them until the folded body portion has been inserted between the edges 3 whereupon the two tubes are joined at 6 and the remainder of edges 3 are sealed to each other. In modifications of the method the edges 3 can be heat sealed at spaced apart positions before inserting the body portion, or only one of the edges 3 may have adhesive applied thereto in which case adhesive must also be applied in a transverse band round half the body portion, or only one of the edges 3 is coated with adhesive near its ends and adhesive is applied all round the top edge of the body portion.
