1350559 Particle spectrometers HEWLETTPACKARD CO 28 Jan 1972 [1 March 1971] 4150/72 Heading H1D An apparatus such as an electron spectrometer 22 which analyses particles according to a selected parameter, such as energy, and produces a spatial distribution of the particles according to said parameter is provided with means for measuring the distribution and for correcting its non-linearity. In Fig. 1 an electron multiplier 28 forms an image on a phosphor 30 in front of a television pick-up tube 34 from which signals are derived and analysed. Non-linearity of the spectrum is compensated by non-linear scanning of the pick-up tube beam and by having curved scan lines. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a, single electron multiplier has a plurality of anodes (70) of non-constant size for isolating sections of the spectrum and providing a linear output. Fig. 3 (not shown) is similar but a plurality of separate electron multipliers are used. In Figs. 2 and 3 the anodes or the separate electron multipliers can be curved to provide further correction.
