Abstract
1,074,537. Television pick-up tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 12, 1963 [Jan. 2, 1963], No. 49137/63. Heading H1D. An electron gun assembly for a picture signal generating tube comprises a cathodeheater enclosure 28 having an electron beam aperture at one end and closed at the other end by a ceramic disc 40 through which pass heater supporting and energizing leads 36. The disc 40 is composed essentially of aluminium oxide and 10 to 15% by weight of one or more of the oxides of cobalt, chromium and magnesium whereby it is opaque to radiation from the heater 32, and prevents such radiation from passing out of enclosure 28 and being reflected towards the photo - sensitive cathode or target of the pick-up tube. As -shown, the electron gun assembly includes apertured control grid 52 and electrode 50 which, with cathode support 24, effectively close the front end of enclosure 28. A rearward extension 29 of enclosure 28 facilitates support of an annular multiplier assembly (not shown) surrounding the gun. The pick-up tube may be an image orthicon or vidicon.
