Abstract

1349889 Comminuting apparatus; roller-andring mills B W BRISTOL 21 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 34314/71 Heading B2A A comminuting apparatus, particularly for grinding and dispersing pigments and inks comprises a casing 20, Fig. 2, having an inlet 32 and outlet 18, a cooling jacket 48, and a body, viz a shaft 24 mounted within and spaced from the inner wall of the casing so that a channel is defined between them. Grinding means in the form of rollers are disposed and restrained in the channel. Feed is assisted by a pump 30 driven by a motor (38), Fig. 1, not shown. A second motor (40), Fig. 1, riot shown, drives the shaft 24 via a belt 46. The rollers may be arranged in axially disposed groups separated by collars 64 which may include undercut portions, secured to the shaft 24. Large and small rollers 60, 62, Fig. 3, or equal-sized rollers 74, 76, Fig. 5, may be arranged around the shaft. The small rollers 62 are larger than the rollers 60 and are received in the undercut portions. Alternatively, the shaft may be grooved 82, Fig. 4, to receive rollers 84. The shaft itself may include a coolant fluid conduit along its central axis.
