Abstract

1325835 Agitator mills W A BACHOFEN [trading as WILLY A BACHOFEN] 26 April 1972 [1 March 1972] 19369/72 Heading B2A A disc-type separator prevents egress of grinding balls from an agitator mill. The mill includes an annular stator assembly 4, 6, 20, 24 with a first annular member 45, a rotor shaft 15 coaxial with the stator assembly a second annular member 47 mounted on the rotor shaft and rotatable therewith, mutually facing surfaces of the two members defining a gap, 46 a demountable spacer member 43 axially locating the second annular member relative to the rotor shaft and means viz a space 11 and connections 9, 10 to direct a coolant to the stator assembly so as to cause it to contact axially relative to the rotor shaft and increase the width of the gap. A disc 30 mounted on the shaft 15 throws any grinding stock outwards so that it drains away via an opening 31. Lubrication is supplied to the apparatus via bores 32a..b. The grinding receptacle 40 is sealed against the stator by clamps not shown, and includes a jacket and charging neck 40a. The balls used may be e.g. 0.1 mm for use in grinding bacteria and yeasts by agitation with an agitator shaft 41 and disc(s) 50. Ground material passing the gap 46 passes into a space 35 and thence leaves via a bore 34a into a collecting nipple 34. The drive for the rotor shaft may be automatically disabled in response to excess temperature.
