946,390. Disc mills. SPROUT, WALDRON & CO. Inc. July 26, 1962 [Jan. 15, 1962], No. 28730/62. Heading B2A. An attrition mill comprises a rotatable disc 210 having secured thereto attrition plates 260, 261 co-operable with attrition plates 262, 263 secured to non-rotatable discs 200, 177 respectively, the disc 210 being mounted on a horizontal shaft 211 mounted in bearings 215, 216 so as to be freely slidable axially, fluid-pressure piston-and-cylinder means 250, 251 being associated with the disc 200 so as to displace and adjust the axial position of the disc relative to the disc 177 and consequently the relative axial positioning of the discs 200, 177 and the disc 210 substantially independently of the axial floating displacement of the disc 210. Material to be refined is introduced through inlet pipes 235, 236 and the refined material is discharged at 240. The refining discs are enclosed in a casing composed of two parts 176, 185, the part 185 being axially displaceable with respect to the part 176 to give access to the discs.
