Abstract

1367717 Conical mills; disc mills NORTON CO 3 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 10036/72 Heading B2A A pulp refiner has two relatively rotatable refining members on one of which is mounted a freely rotatable pressure roller mechanism with the roller extending into the refining space between the members. As described the refiner may be a disc mill 10 Fig. 1 having a rotatable disc 18 bearing a plurality of radially-offset spring-urged and adjustable rollers 40, Fig. 2 or a conical mill with rollers 140 Fig. 5 arranged around the stator and similarly spring-urged and adjustable. The rollers may have an abrasive outer layer, e.g. of bonded abrasive particles, and similar abrasive surfaces may be provided on the refiner member. The rollers may alternatively be urged against the cooperating refining member by hydraulic devices.
