Abstract

1,129,106. Disc brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINEN-UND ARMATURENFABKIK K.G.]. 16 March, 1966 [10 Sept., 1965], No. 11515/66. Heading F2E. In a spot type disc brake of the kind having a fixed cylinder 5 containing a pair of pistons 8, 9, one of which acts on the adjacent pad 2 while the other acts by way of a floating caliper 6, or tie-rods, on the opposed pad 2a, a mechanical applying means of the type comprising a manually rotatable member 10 formed with recesses on at least its face opposite the pad 2 for the reception of balls 13 which co-operate with these recesses and further recesses in a thrust ring 11, or a pair of thrust rings 11, 12 as shown, is interposed between the backing plate 3 of pad 2 and a thrust pin 16 forming part of an adjustable thrust member 15, a threaded pin 14 of which is screwed into the piston 9, the piston 8 being slidable on the pin 16. As a result, the hydraulic and mechanical elements operate independently of one another. The piston 8 may be arranged to contact the ring 12 during hydraulic operation such that the thrust member 15 comes into operation only during mechanical application of the brake. The caliper 6 is supported on the cylinder 5 by way of a rubber ring 17 and is also carried by a fixed support (not shown) through resilient buffers (also not shown). The pads are supported in an auxiliary caliper 4 secured to the fixed support.
