Abstract

1351367 Ball mills K GABOR 9 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 51987/71 Heading B2A A ball mill comprises a housing divided into compartments, each enclosing a rotatable shaft carrying two or more feed screw portions adjacent portions being of opposite hand and the compartments being connected in series. Material is thus moved in opposite directions axially of each compartment and preferably radially inwards between the portions and passes from compartment to compartment. The compartments, each with its shaft and feed screw portions 4, 5, are connected by pipes 26 linking the base exit of one to the top inlet of that adjacent. The compartments are formed by partitions 21, 22 in a cylinder. Screens 23 prevent escape of grinding media. The shafts are driven by separate motors so that the agitating speeds may be varied as between compartments. Different sizes of balls may be used in different compartments.
