Abstract
Attrition mill has vessel contng. grinding particles, agitated by inclined discs on shafts. The particles are strained off by a screen. The shell of the vessel is jacketed to provide cooling. The discs are inclined at alternate angles in alternative versions, a disc normal to the shaft can be placed between each inclined disc or the discs can all be inclined in the same direction. The mill is useful for milling, homogenising, emulsifying etc. microbial, organic and inorganic suspensions. Increased agitation is achieved at lower shaft speeds and therefore heat generation is reduced. This is of particular importance for heat sensitive materials, esp. microbial cells.
