Abstract

1346043 Carrying liquefied gases BRIDGESTONE LIQUEFIED GAS CO Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 56643/72 Heading B7A [Also in Division F4] A tanker ship for carrying liquefied gases has a membrane tank 3 which is so arranged that the hull 1 of the ship does not need to support the tank for the latter's full height. The tank 3 is contained in a box 4, with the interposition of a compression resisting, thermally insulating layer 2. The bottom and side walls 4<SP>1</SP> and 4<SP>11</SP> of the box can maintain the tank structure in a given shape when it is unloaded but not when it is loaded. The curved part 3b of the tank is strong enough, because of its curvature, to resist the tank internal pressure so that the hull 1, which resists the pressure on the lower parts of the tank structure, need only extend up to the level of the bottom of the part 3b. The tank structure and the hull may be made separately and the tank then lowered into the hull.
