Abstract

1345500 Easy-open can ends ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 20 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971 (2)] 58820/72 Heading B8D A plastics or aluminium can end 10 comprises a V-shaped score 18 defining a flap, a U-shaped score 26 defining a vent-producing tear strip 28 with ends terminating on a line joining the ends of the V-shaped score, and a pull-tab 40 having nose and handle ends 42 and 44 respectively riveted at 30 and 32 to the flap and tear strip. On raising the tab, the scores 18 and 26 are ruptured and the formed flap hinged downwardly about said line. The flap is provided with an antifracture score 24 and with inwardly-directed beads which also limit bending of the flap about said line. The tab has a cut 60 extending across its upper surface so that after the flap has been plunged inwardly, the handle end may be bent back out of an obturating position towards the plane of the can end and retained thereagainst by a hook projection (36), Fig. 8 (not shown).
