Abstract

1300340 Easy-opening containers CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 19 Oct 1971 [20 Oct 1970] 48654/71 Heading B8D The sharp edges of a scoreline-defined removable panel portion 26 of a full-opening can end panel 10 and the residue portion of the panel formed on tearing away the removable panel portion by means of a pull tab 28 are each shielded to protect a consumer from injury. In Fig. 8, the edge of the residue panel portion is shielded by the smooth turned edge 23 of a double-folded annular band 19, and the removable panel portion edge is shielded by an outwardly projecting plastisol band 34, which is adhered to the underside of the removable panel portion and which initially is in non-adherent engagement with the edge 23. In modifications, Figs. 9 and 12 (not shown), the removable panel portion edge is shielded by a double-folded band and the residue panel portion edge is shielded by a plastisol band adhered thereto. In further modifications, Figs. 10 and 11, (not shown), both edges are shielded by double folded annular panels formed in each of the respective panel portions. Reference is made to Specification 1,267,902.
