Abstract
1383067 Easy-open can ends NATIONAL CAN CORP 3 Nov 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 50820/72 Heading B8D The score-line defined removable section 20 of a fully-open can end is formed with a peripheral bead 50, which is interrupted at opposed positions 52, 54 and 56, and with a trough 40, which extends across the section transverse to the direction of removal thereof by a pull tab 24 and which has a bottom wall 42 inclined to the plane of the removable section. A bead 48 extends along the forward edge of the trough. The bead 50 ensures that the forward part 20a of the section remains substantially flat on initial rupture and inward bending of this forward part about the first of a series of transverse bend lines 70, 72, 74 and 76 defined by the bead interruptions. The segments of the bead between the interruptions and the trough prevent crowning of the intermediate and rear parts 20b and 20c of the section during removal of the section, the intermediate part 20b bending along lines 72-76. A depression 90 is formed in the removable section below the finger ring of the pull tab. The pull tab is provided with a peripheral reinforcing bead 37 and a pair of reinforcing ribs 39. A core 32 is provided in the removable section adjacent an integral pull-tab securing rivet 26.
