Abstract

1365948 Easy-opening cans AMERICAN CAN CO 15 Oct 1971 [25 Feb 1971] 48190/71 Heading B8D A full easy-open aluminium or tin-plate can end comprises an outer peripheral score 18 defining a removable panel section 20, a shallower inner score 48 in the panel section and extending generally parallel to the outer score, a pull tab 32 riveted to the panel section between the scores, an outwardly-projecting stiffening ribs 50 formed between the scores adjacent the tab and at a diametrically-opposed location. The inner score includes a portion 44 extending partially around the tab rivet, and the spacing between the inner and outer scores at the tab end and opposed end of the panel is at least 0À125 inches. The construction is said to inhibit flexing of the can end along the outer score as a result of cooking and subsequent cooling of contents in the can, for example. Beads 46 promote bending of the removable section on opening.
