1342898 Coated sheet materials BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 22 Oct 1971 [24 Oct 1970] 50606/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A composite panel, e.g. an aircraft floor panel comprises in bonded combination a core 2 of honeycomb material, first and second layers 3, 4 of a fibre-reinforced fire-resistant epoxy resin plastics material disposed one on each face of the core, the said first layer having on its outer surface a smoke retarding layer 5 formed of a metallic material and the second layer having on its outer surface a smokeretarding layer 6 formed of a fibre reinforced phenolic resin plastics material or of a metallic material. In a preferred embodiment, the honeycomb of a board-like material comprising nylon fibres impregnated with a phenolic resin, the first layer comprises three laminations 3a, 3b, 3c of a woven glass cloth impregnated with an epoxy resin, the second layer comprises a single layer of a woven glass cloth impregnated with an epoxy resin and the smoke retarding layer adjacent the second layer is formed of a single lamination of a woven glass cloth impregnated with a phenolic resin. In a further embodiment the first and second layers each comprise at least one lamination of an epoxy impregnated carbon fibre material. The metal material may be an aluminium foil or may be applied by spraying.
