Abstract
1311202 Laminated products DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 15657/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division B7] A composite article especially a load-carrying floor panel for aircraft (shown inverted in the Figure), comprises a reinforcement 12 of continuous lengths of fibrous material set in a cured resin matrix, the lengths extending in curved configuration between edge pieces 11 of the article, a core 13 for distributing an applied load to tension the reinforced matrix, the core extending between the edge pieces and within the curve defined by the reinforced matrix and a prefabricated facing panel 14 which may be of aluminium. The edge pieces 11 may be of aluminium alloy. The core may be a honeycomb cured foamed resin or balsa wood. The fibrous material, which may be of glass and/or carbon fibre, may comprise an open network wound round the edge pieces through notches 15 or a woven cloth material and may be tensioned prior to cure. The resin matrix may comprise an epoxy, polyester, polyimide or Friedel- Crafts type resin. End pieces normal to edge pieces 11 may be provided for winding reinforcement parallel to the edge pieces and the reinforcement may also extend normal to the edge pieces to form a triangulated lattice.
