Abstract

1396363 Laminated foam silicate panels K SHIMIZU 21 March 1972 [24 March 1971] 13220/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] An incombustible panel which may form part of a laminate is formed by impregnating a sheet of a non-woven fabric made of a synthetic fibre material, e.g. a polyester, cellulose acetate or polyamide with a foamable sodium or potassium silicate and drying by heating at a temperature in the range of 100‹ to 300‹ C. while controlling the foam thickness with an applied pressure, e.g. of 50-2,000 grams/sq. cm. Such panels may be laminated together optionally interleaved with a metal, e.g. aluminium sheets, by heating or with an adhesive. A metal sheet may also be laminated to the top of a stack of such panels. The non-woven fabric may comprise a binder. The impregnant may be admixed with a silicone resin or a metal salt or oxide. The panels may be coated with paint.
