Abstract

1,089,278. Electrically heated constructional panels. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 7, 1965 [Dec. 24, 1964], No. 52462/64. Heading H5H. A composite electrically heated constructional panel suitable for a caravan, boat or prefabricated building comprises a sheet heating element 14 of electrically conducting elastomer or synthetic plastics material having electrodes 15 attached along opposite edges disposed between rigid supporting sheets 18 or 12 intended to form respectively portions of the internal and external facings of said caravan, boat-or building. The panel shown comprises wooden framing members 11 secured to an aluminium sheet 12 on which are mounted four composite layers each comprising a layer 13 of fibre glass insulation and a conducting silicone rubber sheet heating element 14 with copper foil electrodes 15. The composite layers are covered by a plastics insulating envelope 16 and a decorated hardboard layer 18. The heating element may alternatively be graphite loaded rubber or polyalkylene. on a backing of paper, glass cloth or polyester fabric The internal and external facings may be of wood, metal, fibre glass or plastics.
