Abstract

Protective helmet comprises a crown consisting of >=3 layers arranged in sandwich-type construction. They comprise two outer layers of fabric, pref. made of glass, C or B fibres, impregnated withsynthetic resin, pref. an epoxy resin, a polyester resin or a phenolic resin, and a central layer made of material which is profiled to a honeycomb-like structure. The central layer, which acts as reinforcement, pref. consists of a synthetic resin e.g. phenolic resin or a metal e.g. Al. Further reinforcement may be provided by localised filling of the honeycomb structure, or by enclosing additional layers of synthetic fabric or metallic fabric between the honeycomb layer and the inner and outer layers.
