Abstract

A transverse length of fibrous material is laid thereon and a longitudinal length of fibrous material superimposed and put under tension so that portions of the transverse length are forced into the recesses. The fibrous assembly having the shape of the former is bonded by application of a size and separated from the latter. A layer 21, Fig. 6, e.g. of GRP may be stitched to each assembly and a number of assemblies placed one over the other and wound with additional fibrous material 16. The resultant body is moulded to form a gas turbine blade. The fibres may be of carbon sized with an epoxy resin or may be of metal or boron.
