Abstract

1341235 Concentric-tube heat exchangers T MARGITTAI 16 April 1971 9588/71 Heading F4S A plurality of concentrically-disposed radiallyspaced annular chambers (e.g. 20, 201, 20A &c.) are mounted in a cylindrical shell 11 through which is passed a liquid to be heated, said liquid flowing in a tortuous path as indicated by arrows 65-75 from an inlet 32 to an outlet 33A. A heating medium such as steam is passed through the chambers. The innermost chamber 61 has a single aperture serving as a steam inlet and condensate outlet, but all the remaining chambers have individual inlets and outlets (e.g. 27, 27A for the chamber 20). In the arrangement shown, the chambers comprise two sets, viz. 20, 20A, 36 and 20<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>11</SP>, 61, mounted respectively one from each end of the shell 11. Each chamber has an annular end flange such as 25 for the chamber 20 which is clamped by bolts 80 between a clamp plate 75 or 76 and the appropriate end flange 13 or 14 of the shell 11. Helical ribbing 90 may be formed in the wall of each chamber particularly to agitate the liquid being heated.
