Abstract
1,046,474. Heating liquids in bulk; hollow plate elements. SOC. FIVES LILLE-CAIL. June 14, 1963, No. 23901/63. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B1] A flowable material such as a slurry or syrup is heated or evaporatec as it circulates within a casing 1 over a path generally indicated at 17, defined partly by baffles 16; said path in eluding vertical passages formed between steam heated hollow-plate ele ments 10. The casing 1 includes a drainage sec tion 4 and an outlet 7. Uncondensed portions of the heating steam are injected into the flowable material to assist circulation. Steam condensate is removed from the heating elements through a pipe 14. The hollow elements 10 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) each comprise two plates 20 welded together and shaped to assist evacuation therefrom of condensate and non-condensable gases. The hollow plates have internal inclined baffles 22 which direct condensate towards the drainage pipe 14 and provide a sinuous flow path, for the steam. Supports 24 connect the hollow elements 10 to the end plates 8 of the shell (Figs. 1 and 3, not shown).
