Abstract

1338306 Drying webs AGFA-GEVAERT 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970] 20095/71 Heading F4G A web of wet photographic film is fed ernulsion side outwards on to the outside of an endless belt 15 driven along a helical path defined by idler rollers 14 mounted on a cylindrical frame 17 within a housing 11, air being drawn in through a grating 20 over a heating resistor 24 by a blower 23 and passing on to the web through slots 13 arranged in a helix in a cylinder 12. A helical inclined rib 19 increasing in height away from the blower 23 distributes the air uniformly to the slots 13. The endless belt 15 runs through apertures in the housing 11 and the cylinder 12, runs over return rollers 28 outside the housing 11 and is driven by a roller 16. Circular air-escape holes 18 in the frame 17 are arranged in a helix between the rollers 14. The web is fed between a pair of spaced tracks 26 provided with facing grooves for engaging the edges of the web, on to the underside of the belt 15 with the emulsion facing downwards. The tracks 26 may extend into the cylinder 12. The Fig. 1 arrangement may be inverted so that the web is fed on to the belt 15.
