Abstract

1419978 Discharging static electricity from webs XEROX CORP 19 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 58572/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] A web transport apparatus which discharges static electricity on the web comprises an electrically conductive support member, a plurality of resiliently flexible electrically conductive contact members fixed to the support member and extending therefrom and means for driving the support member. In Fig. 4 a photoconductive band 12 is supported on upstanding conductive contact members attached to endless conductive transport belt 84. The conductive belt may be woven from electrically conductive fibres (e.g. stainless steel fibres or metallized fibres) and the contact members may be applied by electostatic flocking or by mechanical interweaving. A transport roller 89 similarly constructed with conductive support and contact members also serves to move the web. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the band 12 is transported by two spaced rollers constructed similarly to roller 89. The band is supported between the rollers by a vacuum platen.
