Abstract

1444096 Transfer printing apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Jan 1974 [2 March 1973] 10235/73 Heading B6C [Also in Division F2] A sealed entry slot through which webs 12, 13 can be fed into a zone of reduced air pressure, e.g. in a process of vacuum transfer colour printing, has a row of fingers 8 (a central few of which may be combined together) pivoted on a shaft 9 and individually pressure loaded towards the webs. The fingers constitute one of two sealing members between which the webs pass. The second sealing member may be a further row of fingers, a rotating roller 5, or a stationary cylindrical surface (23, Figs V and VI, not shown) covered with a layer (24) of rubber, polyurethane or P.T.F.E. The fingers 8 may be of nylon and have a sealing strip 10 of silicone rubber or polyurethane extending to the edge of the slot. To avoid frictional contact, the webs 12, 13 may be fed between a pair of endless belts (30, 33)
