Abstract

1341859 Drying webs FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60471/71 Heading F4G A travelling coated web of photographic material is supported and dried by air issuing from elongated apertures 101, 102, 103, ... &c. in a flat or part-cylindrical plate, the air maintaining a static air pressure of not less than 5 mm. H 2 O between the web and the plate, the total area of the apertures being not more than 5% of the area of the plate, the apertures being dimensioned and disposed in accordance with the following conditions: (1) 70‹#α#110‹ (2) - 20‹###20‹ (3) 3 mm.#s#7 mm. (4) 3#d/s#15 (5) 1À5#p/d#2À5 (6) 0À7p#l#200 mm. (7) #e is chosen to ensure that the apertures are uniformly distributed across the plate when the area of the apertures is totalled along the web feeding direction A. Where the web has wet layers on both surfaces, a plate is provided above the web as well as below, but the air pressure is lower at the upper side of the web. Sets of conditions are specified.
