1330379 Making pressure sensitive record sheets; coating webs APPLETON PAPERS Inc 17 Aug 1971 38535/71 Headings D1L and D2B Pressure-sensitive record sheet material comprising a paper sheet having a clay coating on one side and an emulsion coating containing microcapsules containing a liquid color-forming material on the other side is made by passing a paper web 16 to a first coating station 20 where a clay coating is applied, drying the coating in dryer 42, calendering the coated web immediately prior to application of the emulsion coating at coating station 64, applying the emulsion coating, smoothing it and drying it in dryer 86. Air-knife doctoring devices 34 and 78 are positioned downstream of each coating station and the coated web passes over suction apron 84 before passing to second dryer 86.
