Abstract

1338253 Extensible scaffolding member KWIKFORM Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 12959/70 Heading E1S An extensible scaffolding upright comprises a tube 10 and an extension element 11, the extension element comprising two rigid tubes 20 connected together in parallel spaced relationship by a fixed coupling 22 and a slidable coupling 21 to accommodate the tube 10 therebetween, the couplings 21, 22 being provided with axially aligned spigot or socket attachments 30, 23, and the tube 10 being connected to the attachtment 30 of the coupling 21 which is axially slidable along the tubes 20 and securable in a selected adjustment position thereon. The coupling 21 comprises two sleeves 32 secured by spacers to the attachment tube 30, and the two tubes 20 are slidable therein secured by pins 40 inserted in selected holes 39 in the tubes 20 and resting on the upper edges of the sleeves 32. The extension element 11 is further secured by a clamping plate 34 carried on the coupling 21 and having pegs 35 thereon which pass through apertures in the sleeves 32 and are forced into clamping engagement with the tubes 20 by a wedge 37. The construction allows sockets for receiving dependent spigots 15 on horizontal scaffold members to be mounted on the tube 10, e.g. arranged as shown or arranged diagonally (Fig. 7, not shown). The extensible uprights may be used to support floor shuttering (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown).
