Abstract

1278596 Scaffolding KWIKFORM Ltd 20 June 1969 [23 June 1968 14 Aug 1968] 30343/ 68 and 38783/68 Heading E1S Horizontal or sloping scaffolding members 11 are connected to uprights by means of spigots and sockets, each spigot being in the form of a captive wedge 21 slidable in a member 17 welded to the end of the member 11. In the embodiment shown the wedge is generally T-sectioned with a curved flange to engage the upright and a slot 22, tapered at the lower end, through which passes the base 19 of the generally channel-sectioned upright leg of the L-shaped member 17. The left hand side of this leg (as seen in the Fig.), and the right hand side of the wedge, engage the socket 13 and upright 12 respectively when the wedge is forced down. The taper in the slot allows the wedge to remain in a pulled-up position relative to member 17. In an alternative embodiment, not shown, the member 17 is replaced by a channel-sectioned member attached to the member 11 with the channel facing horizontally away from the end of member 11, and the slot in the wedge engages over a pair of spaced apart parallel pins extending through the side walls of the channel-sectioned member.
