Abstract
1334001 Magnetrons ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO Ltd 28 April 1972 [4 May 1971] 13036/71 Heading H1D A multicavity magnetron the frequency of which can be rapidly switched between two values includes an auxiliary resonant cavity 8 coupled to one of the magnetron cavities and containing two electrodes 9 and 10 having their facing surfaces 11 and 17 formed of a secondary emissive material, whereby, in operation, multifactor discharge between the two electrodes, produced by the magnetic field, effectively shorts out the auxiliary cavity, while inhibition of the discharge by the application either of a sufficient D.C. potential or of a magnetic field, changes the magnetron frequency by virtue of the pulling effect of the auxiliary cavity. As shown, electrode 9 is provided with a heater to assist in the initiation of the discharge, while electrode 10 is surrounded by a cylinder 22 constituting an R.F. choke.
