Abstract

1333335 Garbage bin W SCHNEIDER & CO 27 Jan 1972 [12 March 1971 27 May 1971 7 June 1971 7 Sept 1971] 3974/72 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A garbage bin 3 comprises a flexible garbage sack 20, detachably suspended from a sack holder frame 1 which is movable out of the bin through attachment to a door 6, and a cover 2 for the open end of the sack to prevent escape of odour. The frame 1 has holding flaps 45, for the open end 44' of the sack 20, held biased against the frame 1 by leaf springs 49. The cover 2 is pivotably mounted by a horizontal bar 4 and has a counter weight 5 (or alternatively a spring) to incline the cover when the door 6 is opened. On closure of the door an abutment spring 7 presses the face of the cover 2 against the frame 1. The underside of the cover 2 may have a lining of elastic material such as foam rubber to seal the cover 2 against the open end of the sack. The flaps 45 have swivel bearings comprising projections 47 co-operating with holes 48 in the frame 1 and the flaps 45 are held open by a cog 50 on the spring 49 engaging the edge of a hole 51 in the flap 45. In a garbage bin in which a door (24) Fig. 4 (not shown) is movable about a vertical axis a sack holder frame (25) is attached to an arm (28) of a swivable rod (27) mounted in a vertical axis. A second arm (29) holds a bracket (29) for supporting the bottom of a garbage sack (not shown). The rod is mounted in bearings (30) which are attached by lugs (36) to the side of the bin. The rod comprises an upper section (27') and a lower section (27") joined by a sleeve (37) which has a solid middle section acting as an abutment. The end of the upper section (27') in the sleeve has transverse grooves (39) to aid altering the length of the rod (27). "S" shaped clips (57) Fig. 12 (not shown) comprising a strip of resilient material may be used instead of holding flaps, one bend of the "S" (60, 61) clamping an open edge (56') of a sack (56) against a holding frame (54), the other bend (62, 61) forming a hook for holding a carrier bag (59). A carrier or shopping bag may replace the flexible garbage sack.
