Abstract

958,658. Garbage bins; bag holders. GARBINS Ltd. Dec. 8, 1960 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2867/60. Heading B8C. A garbage bin comprises a rim 3, which supports a replaceable, garbage-receiving paper bag 1. The rim has a semi-circular front portion integral with a straight back portion, which is hinged to a backplate 2. Part of the mouth of the bag is clamped between the said straight portion and the back-plate and the remaining part is clamped, around the rim's semi-circular portion, by an inelastic, e.g. metal, strap 5 secured, at one end, to a tension, e.g. helical, spring 6 secured to a lug 7 on the back-plate and, at the other end, to a toggle 8 provided with a hook, which is attached to a hasp 9 on the back-plate. Downward and upward movement of the strap may be restricted by outwardly projecting ribs on the rim. Alternatively, the strap may be accommodated in a groove in the rim. The strap may be curved to fit the curved front portion of the rim and the inner surface of the strap may be roughened. The bin may be provided with a lid 4 pivoted to the straight back portion of the rim.
