Abstract

A kitchen cabinet has a swingable door which, in its open position, reveals a compartment in which a garbage bag holder is swingably mounted. The holder comprises a pair of rod sections of adjustable axial effective lengths pivoted in a pair of bearings respectively engaging the upper and lower ends of the rod arrangement. The two rod sections each carry a radial arm, one of which forms a holder or frame for a removable bag while the other arm provides a base for this bag.

1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures GARBAGE BIN This application is a division of application Ser. No. 216,575 filed Jan. 10, 1972, now US. Pat. No. 3,788,720.
This invention relates to a garbage bin, for kitchen cabinet combinations, having a garbage compartment accessible through a door and a flexible garbage sack arranged therein, the sack being interchangeably suspended from a sack holder which is swingable out of the garbage department.
The garbage bin according to the invention differs from earlier bins in that the sack holder has a garbage compartment accessible through a hinged door, wherein the sack holder is fixed to an arm swivable about a vertical axis which is supported at the bottom, at the top or on a side wall within the garbage compartment near the hinged door thereof, whereby the arm and door are swivably interconnected.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the invention. In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a perspective diagrammatic representation of a garbage compartment forming part of a kitchen cabinet combination, as indicated by dot-dash lines, with a holding and swivel device for the sack-holding frame shown by solid lines, and
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary detail view of FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale.
In FIGS. 1 and 2 a garbage compartment 1 is fitted within the kitchen cabinet combination and closable by the hinged door 4, the cabinet combination also includes a sink 2 and a drainboard 3.
5 denotes (by dash-dot lines) the sack holder frame for a garbage sack (not shown), while 6 (also shown by dash-dot lines) marks a bracket adapted to support the bottom of the sack. To fix frame 5 and bracket 6 there are two arms 8 and 9 swivably mounted on a vertical axis or shaft. Swivel shaft or rod 7 is carried in two bearings 10; the top bearing screwed to the inside wall I] and the bottom bearing to the floor 12 of the garbage compartment. Each of the bearings includes a horizontal base plate 13 with two identical bearing eyes 14 and 15, together with an attachment lug 16 at right angles to the base plate. Depending on whether a bearing 10 is to be mounted on a side wall or on the top or floor 12 of the garbage compartment, the attachment screws pass through either the lugs 16 or else the base plate, 13. As will be apparent from the drawing, the bearing eyes l4, l5 and the attachment lug 16 of one and the same bearing project on the same side of the base plate 13.
In the form shown, swivel rod 7 includes two sections: an upper section 7 and a lower section 7". Both sections are joined by a sleeve 17 into which their inner ends fit, though the bore of the sleeve does not extend completely through but is interrupted half-way along its length by a solid section 18 acting as an abutment. As is visible from FIG. 2, the inner end of the upper section of axis 7 has a number of grooves 19 recessed thereinto forming constrictions of the cross section which enable shortening the effective length of rod section 7 if required. In this way the length, i.e., height of the swivel axis can be adapted to particular conditions. The shafts, arms and bearings are preferably manufactured from plastics, say, thermoplastics.
The connection between the swivel arms 8, 9 and the door 4 is ensured by two screwhooks 20 and 21 fixed in the door, their ends hooking over said arms. As shown in FIG. 1 it is preferable to have the axis 7 located as close as possible to the swivel axis of door 4.
Carried in two open bearings 50 integral with holder frame 5 (of which only one is shown in FIG. 1) is a pin 5b acting as a roll holder. Said pin serves to carry a roll 5c which consists of a strip 5d of garbage sacks that may be parted off along transverse perforation lines, as is available commercially. From said roll single garbage sacks can be drawn off as required, and either cut off.
or else torn off if transverse perforations have been provided, and then suspended and fixed in the holder frame 5 in known manner. This embodiment has the advantage that spare garbage sacks are always immediately available where they are needed.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a kitchen cabinet having a door swingable about a vertical axis to expose a compartment, of a garbagebag holder received in said compartment and swingable with said door, said garbage holder comprising:
a pair of bearing assemblies mounted in said compartment and each comprising a bracket adapted to be affixed to a wall of said compartment and a respective bearing sleeve, the bearing sleeves opening toward one another adjacent said axis;
a rod assembly comprising a pair of axially aligned rod sections having opposite ends respectively received rotatably in said sleeves, and proximal ends reaching toward one another, and a connecting sleeve receiving said proximal ends, said connecting sleeve being formed with a pair of axially extending aligned bores separated by a transverse partition, each of said bores receiving a proximal end of one of said rod sections, at least one of said proximal ends being formed with a plurality of removable sections separated from one another by annular grooves in the respective rod section; a frame affixed to said first arm for releasably supporting a garbage bag in an open condition thereof;
a platform on said secondary arm for supporting the bottom of said sack; and
at least one hook engaging one of said arms and affixed to said door for effecting an outward swinging movement of said arms upon corresponding movement of said door.

Claims (1)
