Abstract

1332683 Coated fabric CARRINGTON & DEWHURST Ltd 26 Oct 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 50939/70 Heading B2E A composite fabric is produced by bonding a foam layer to one side of a fabric backing, bonding a polyurethane film to the opposite side of the foam layer and applying an elastomeric lacquer to the film to colour the surface of the composite fabric. As shown in the drawing a composite fabric A is produced by feeding fabric web B and a layer of foamed polyurethane through the nip between roller 1 and cylinder 2, the fabric web and foam plastics being bonded together by heat from a flame 3 or by an adhesive. Film D is bonded to the opposite side of the plastics material C by heat from the flame 5 or by an adhesive and the surface of the film D is then coloured by applying a coating of an elastomeric lacquer by spraying, roller or reverse roller coating, or by direct spreading or printing. Preferably the lacquer is polyurethane based. The fabric may be woven, knitted, random web cotton, wool, nylon. The product may be used for the manufacture of coats, furnishing fabrics, handbags, luggage, footwear.
