Abstract

1332038 Delivering sheets FERAG FEHR & REIST AG 15 Feb 1971 4694/71 Heading B8R Newspapers Z are delivered to the bottom of a stack between a pair of counter rotating spiral surfaces 9 each of the form shown in Fig. 1, the last 270 degree sector of the last winding of each spiral nearest to the delivery station having a pitch of 0 degrees and the remaining first 90 degrees of said sector 93, 113 having a greater pitch than the pitch of the remaining windings, whereby a substantially flat stack supporting surface is defined at the top of the last winding during its rotation. Guide bars 53 and 54 are positioned in the space bounded by the spirals and a rear guide rail 31 is provided. A conveyer band 45 urges a newspaper entering the spirals towards bar 53 and the newspaper is thus registered during its upward travel against bar 53 and rail 31. Newspapers are periodically released into the spirals by a gate 32 which normally blocks entry shoot 27. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) a single spiral is employed, one guide bar being located within the space bounded by the spiral and three other guide bars (for the remaining edges of a newspaper) being located outside the space.
