Abstract

1328805 Regulating I.C. engine fuel supply JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 17 Dec 1970 [6 Jan 1970] 560/70 Heading F1B In apparatus for controlling the position of a control stop on a metering pump in a fuel injection system a cam 20 rotatable by a capsule 12 responsive to engine coolant temperature in a chamber 11 is engaged by a member 25 on a spring- biased rotatable cam follower 23 or by a follower member 26 when the solenoid 28 is energized during engine starting. The follower 23 is rotatable with a spindle 24, Fig. 2, carrying a crank 29 engaging a spring-biased pivotally mounted cam plate 30. A follower 37 including a roller 39 engaging the cam plate 30 is connected to a diaphragm 33 subject to engine intake manifold pressure and the roller also engages a piston 41 engaging the metering pump control stop. The plunger 15, Fig. 1, in the lost-motion connection 13, 14, 15, 45, 46 between the capsule 12 and cam 20, controls a port 19 through which an additional air supply may reach the engine. In operation, the roller 39 is moved to provide a reduction in stroke of the metering pump as a function of the rise in engine coolant temperature, which function is modified by the solenoid 28 to provide increased fuel for starting, and as a function of decrease in manifold pressure.
