Abstract

1,232,291. Regulating I.C. engine fuel supply. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ. A.G. July 19, 1968 [July 22, 1967] , No.34573/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division G3] A device for controlling the fuel delivery regulator of the fuel injection pump of a supercharged fuel-injection engine is arranged to reduce the supply of fuel to the engine when the exhaust gas temperature rises to an inadmissible value. The device may be mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic. In the hydraulic device shown a mercury vapour filled temperature sensitive member 4 acts on a piston 3 which controls the supply of hydraulic fluid from an inlet 15 to a chamber 12 to act on the larger face of a differential piston 2 and the flow from the chamber to a drain passage 10. The smaller face of the piston 2 is permanently connected to the inlet 15. The piston 2 is coupled to the fuel delivery regulator and assumes a position in which the forces exerted on the piston 3 by the piston 2, through a spring 6, and by the member 4 are in equilibrium. The piston 3 is also actuated by a spring-biased diaphragm 5, subject to the supercharging pressure, when this pressure is too high. In a further embodiment, Fig.2 (not shown), the control piston (17) is mounted in a cylinder laterally offset from the cylinder of the differential piston (16) and the spring connection therebetween includes a pivoted lever (18).
