Abstract

1320187 Fuel pressure regulator JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 29 Sept 1971 [30 Sept 1970] 46594/70 Heading F1B In a fuel pressure regulator for use in a fuel injection system of an engine fuel acts via inlet 11 on a plunger 16 to tend to move it to open an aperture to reduce fuel pressure in the fuel injection system and the inlet manifold pressure acts via bore 26 on the inside of plunger 16 and on diaphragm 41 in the opposite direction so that the fuel pressure is regulated to exceed the inlet manifold pressure by an amount that increases with increasing inlet manifold pressure. Fuel can flow to outlet 12 via grooves 25 and past corners 15, 24. The cross sectional areas of plunger 16 and diaphragm 29 are chosen so that back pressure in outlet 12 has no tendency to move the plunger. The space 43 between diaphragms 29, 41 in connected via duct 44 to a source of constant pressure (a vacuum vessel or the atmosphere). The members subject to fuel and inlet manifold pressures may be equal in area but with the member subject to manifold pressure connected to the plunger 16 by a force multiplying lever.
